Getting Started

Getting into a healthy routine is tough no matter your background or physical abilities. Something I learned myself all too well. Over the years my weight has fluctuated between pregnancies, mental health and a binge eating disorder. But over the last year I’ve really tried to come to terms with my bad habits and accept that I need to make some permanent changes to my lifestyle choices. Little by little the changes have become easier, like cutting out a ton of sugar, not eating before bed and cutting out processed foods. I increased my activity by getting on my bike as often as possible and working out at home. So far I’ve lost over 45lbs and as much as I often wish the weight would come off faster, I know that slow and steady yields longer lasting and more permanent results.  This is my first blog I’ve ever started, so excuse me as I learn to navigate this. But I really hope I can help and inspire other people to start, or continue along their paths to a healthy life.

Tracking Progress

If you’re anything like me, trying to remember to keep track of how much you exercised, what you ate or drank or your progress in general, it doesn’t hurt to have a helping hand. Back in mid-December I got myself a Versa 2 Fitbit and downloaded the free app. I used the basic version at first and it was still pretty helpful. You DON”T HAVE TO have the premium version, but if you’re curious about it, Fitbit has a 90 day free trial for premium so you can see what its about for yourself before buying it. Personally I love the premium version as it includes challenges…. And not to worry, if you don’t personally know many people who own Fitbits for you to have challenges against, there’s many online groups dedicated to people sharing their usernames and friending strangers from all over the world to join in on your adventure.  The Versa 2 may not be the most recent Fitbit released but aside personal experience, I recommend buying this version as it still updates and operates the sa...

A Little Protein Goes a Long Way

Image
It’s easy to forget in the weight loss process that muscle mass is important to retain. Not just for energy sakes but also, healthy muscles burn fat faster! Alongside eating a healthy diet of meats and veggies high in protein, or perhaps you’re vegetarian or vegan, a normal diet doesn’t always have the boost of protein that we need. A personal favourite that I’ve been using is the Manitoba Harvest “Hemp Yeah Protein + Fibre” powder. To be 100% transparent, it’s still chalky like all the other popular powders out there, sorry! But I love it for its mild-to-no taste depending on what I mix with my almond milk. It’s also plant-based, unsweetened, so NO STEVIA!!!, and low carb. Overall I definitely prefer it over the many other powders I’ve tried and I’m happy to support a Canadian Company as well. Don’t Forget to Drink Your Water!

Image
One thing I definitely can’t stress enough is you need to drink enough water. Drinking the health Canada recommended amount of water daily not only aids in weight loss but it also has many other health benefits. Our bodies are made up of mostly water so it is essential for proper bodily functions. Dehydration impacts all of your organs, including your skin! Health Canada says the average adult requires 8-8oz glasses of water daily. That’s 64oz or a whole gallon of water! It can be tough, especially in the beginning, to feel motivated to drink that much water. To help myself stay on track for the day I got this awesome motivational water bottle from Amazon. My husband thought it was a great idea and had me grab him one as well. I take it with me everywhere I go and I love the positive reactions I get. These bottles are an affordable and fun way to keep track of your water intake and it’s also available in an assortment of colours. Check out my link to buy it on Amazon today with fa...
